The Coeur d’Alene Police Department Citizens on Patrol (COPS) Program enhances the relationship between the citizens of Coeur d’Alene and Coeur d’Alene Police Department. It provides training which enables citizens of Coeur d’Alene to assist the Police Department with duties and services.

Each volunteer receives up to 40 hours of instructions during the COPS Academy, which is designed to inform and educate them about how the Police Department operates and to gain an understanding of the challenges facing law enforcement in our rapidly growing community. The COP’s Academy also provides an opportunity for open discussions and participants are encouraged to share their comments and ideas regarding problems and solutions.

Each COPS Academy, applicant must pass a background check before being selected to attend the Academy and become a COP’s member. Once you complete your training, COP’s members patrol our community in a specially marked COP’s vehicle. You’ll assist the Coeur d’Alene Police Department with security checks, traffic control, and during events in our community (i.e. parades, fire work displays, school events etc.).
